We include tomatoes in our vegetable list, but do you know tomatoes actually belong to a fruit category? It is one of the best foods in our daily diet filled with nutrients. Let us look into some of them.

Prevents Heart Diseases

One of the important factors that affect the heart’s health is cholesterol. Vitamins and antioxidants present in tomatoes prevent the formation of cholesterol, thereby it strengthens the heart’s health.

It is rich in Fibre

100 grams of raw tomato has 18 calories in it. At the same time, it is rich in fiber content. So it gives a feeling of fullness even when consumed in lesser quantity. This helps with weight loss. Additionally, fiber content in tomatoes helps in preventing constipation.

Contain Vital Vitamins and Nutrients

A cup of raw tomatoes a day will supply us with 7 percent of needed fiber content for the day. Also, tomatoes are rich Vitamin A, C, K, thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6, sodium, manganese, phosphorus and many other vital nutrients needed for our good health.

Protects the Skin

Tomatoes protect the skin from free radicals which leads to dark circles, wrinkles, and delays the aging process.

Strengthens the Bones

Vitamin K and calcium present in tomatoes helps with strengthening the bones. A chemical substance called Lycopene which is present in tomatoes increases the bone density.

Helps the Skin to Glow

Applying tomato extract over the face as a pack for 10 minutes and washing it in cold water will make the skin to glow. Vitamin-C content in tomatoes will keep the skin soft and supple.

Cures Oily Skin

Mix 2 teaspoon of tomato extract with 4 teaspoons of cucumber extract. Apply it over the face as a pack for 10 to 15 minutes and wash it off in warm water. Doing this regularly will remove the excess oil content in the skin.

Acts as a Natural Sunscreen

Lycopene present in tomatoes acts as a natural sunscreen and protects the skin from sun damage.

To Treat Pimples

Mix equal amount of tomato extract and honey. Apply this paste over the face, leave it for 15 minutes and wash it off. This will help the skin to glow and cure off pimples.

Tomato as a Scrub

Make a paste of tomato in a mixie. Mix a teaspoon of sugar to this paste and massage the face in circular motion with this paste. This will remove the dead cells from the skin surface and makes the skin to look bright and attractive.
