Having a relaxing sunbath on the beach, playing with the sand and waves during a hot summer day is all fun, but the fun lasts only until you get sunburns. Too much exposure to the hot sun can really damage the outer layer of your skin and can lead to severe burns at times.

Sunburns could get painful and can ruin your appearance until your skin starts to heal itself from the damage caused. Though there are many over the counter options available to treat the condition, it is always better to go for natural remedies that are chemical free and safer for your skin. In this post, we have listed some of the most effective ways you can heal your sunburns naturally at home and we hope you find it useful.

1 Aloe Vera Gel With Honey

Mix 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel with 1 teaspoon honey. Apply this mixture to your skin and let it sit for an hour, and wash it off using lukewarm water.

Why does it work?

Aloe vera contains antioxidants that hydrate the skin, and honey has antiseptic properties that accelerate the healing.

2 Cold Milk

Wash the sunburnt area with water and pat it dry, then dab a cotton ball in cold milk and apply it to your sunburn and leave it for few minutes. This will form a thin layer on your skin. Gently wipe it off using wet cloth after 60 mins.

Why does it work?

Milk provides hydration to your skin, this will make it soft and smooth, accelerating the healing process.

3 Orange Peel Paste

Grind some orange peels into a smooth paste, optionally you can add some lavender oil to it. Apply this paste to your sunburn, leave it for 60 minutes and wash it off using fresh water.

Why does it work?

Orange peels are a rich source of vitamin-c, natural oil, and citric acid. These compounds help reduce blemishes and heal sunburn faster.

4 Banana Paste

Mash half a banana into a fine paste, add 1 tsp of milk and 3 drops of lemon juice to it and mix it well. Apply this paste to your sunburn and leave it on for 30 minutes before washing it off using water.

Why does it work?

Bananas have vitamins and minerals that moisturize the skin and repair the sunburnt areas.

5 Cornstarch and Coconut oil

Make a cornstarch paste by adding water to 2 tablespoons of cornstarch powder and add 3 to 4 drops of coconut oil to the paste. Apply this paste to the sunburnt areas and leave it on for 30 minutes before washing it off.

Why does it work?

Cornstarch soothes sunburnt areas and reduces the pain, while coconut moistures the skin and help your skin heal faster.

6 Cucumber paste with lemon juice and sugar

Grind up half a cucumber into paste consistency and add 3 drops of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of sugar and mix it well. Apply this paste to your sunburnt areas and leave it on 30 minutes before washing it off.

Why does it work?

Cucumber is a natural skin toner and it helps hydrate your skin. Additionally, adding lemon and sugar to it will protect your skin from further damage.

7 Green tea and mint pack

Grind some fresh mint leaves into a smooth paste and add some green tea to it to create a fine paste. Apply this paste to sunburns, leave it for 30 minutes, and wash it off using lukewarm water.

Why does it work?

Green tea is rich in antioxidants which helps to fight inflammation, and mint has a cooling effect and antibacterial properties which helps to heal the burns faster.

8 Tomato paste with Multani mitti

Squeeze the juice out of one well ripe tomato, add two teaspoons of Multani mitti to it, and make it into a thick paste. Apply this paste to sunburns and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

Why does it work?

Tomato contains a compound called lycopene which is a powerful antioxidant. This helps in reducing inflammation in sunburns and Multani mitti will absorb skin impurities.

9 Papaya and Yogurt Paste

Grind two pieces of fresh papaya flesh into a fine paste. Add 2 teaspoons of yogurt to it, mix it well and apply this paste to sunburns, and leave it on for 45 minutes before washing it off.
