Treating your acne problem with over the counter solutions can sometimes turn out to be very ineffective and sometimes even elevate the problem to a whole new level. Treating the problem at home without using any harsh chemical products is the best way to deal with it. And one such effective ways to cure your acne is through tea tree oil.

Tea tree oil is loaded with anti-bacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antiseptic properties. These properties of this wonderful oil will combat the inflammation and acne-causing bacterias.

One of the main reasons for acne is, your skin pores get clogged with pollutants, and specks of dust, this, in turn, blocks the sebaceous glands, which is the natural oil-producing gland in your skin. Tea tree oil can penetrate deep into your skin layers and unclogs these pores and sebaceous glands. So that your skin can breathe freely.

Tea tree oil can also get rid of the acne present on your back and chest areas. Just add few drops of this oil to your bath or water you use for bathing.


1. Tea Tree Oil and Lavender Oil

What you need

  • 10 drops tea tree oil
  • 10 drops lavender oil
  • 1 oz. jojoba oil

Steps involved

  • Take a small bottle or bowl, mix all the above-mentioned oils thoroughly.
  • Take some drops of the mixture and apply it to the affected areas of your skin.
  • Leave it overnight and wash your face with lukewarm water the next morning.
  • Repeat this process every night, till your acne is completely cured.

How it works

Similar to tea tree oil, lavender oil also possess antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Adding lavender oil to tea tree oil will enrich these properties and makes it more effective in fighting against acne.


2. Coconut oil and Tea Tree Oil

What you need

  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 2-3 drops of tea tree oil
  • A small bowl

Steps involved

  • Take a small bowl or bottle and mix both coconut oil and tea tree oil.
  • Apply this mixture to affected areas and leave it on for 2 to 3 hours.
  • After 2 to 3 hours, wash your face with lukewarm water, pat it dry using a clean towel and apply some moisturizer.
  • You can repeat this process two times a day and continue till the acne goes off.

How it works

Coconut oil is loaded with essential fatty acids, these acids ensure your skin is properly hydrated and moisturized. Furthermore, it prevents the excessive oil secretion, which is one of the main reason for acne breakouts.


3. Baking soda and Tea Tree Oil

What you need

  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 2-3 drops of tea tree oil
  • Clean water

Steps involved

  • Mix baking soda with clean water and make it into a paste.
  • To this paste add 2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil and mix well.
  • Slather this prepared paste on the affected area, massage it gently and leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Rinse off the applied paste using lukewarm water and pat it dry.
  • Repeat this process two to three times a week, till the acne clears off.

How it works

Baking soda helps to regulate the pH levels of your skin, this, in turn, will help to regulate the sebum secretion and production. Additionally, it removes the specks of dirt and pollutants that are clogging the pores exfoliating your skin.


4. Lemon and tea tree oil

What you need

  • 2 tsp lemon extract
  • 4 to 5 drops tea tree oil

Steps involved

  • Mix 2 tsp of lemon extract with 4 to 5 drops of tea tree oil.
  • Apply this mixture to the affected area and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes rinse it off with clean lukewarm water, followed by cool water.
  • Repeat this process two to three times a week, till you notice results.

How it works

Lemon juice is acidic in nature and it has antibacterial properties as well. This will combat the acne causing bacterias and keep the acne breakout under control. Additionally, lemon extract is an astringent.

Caution: People with sensitive skin should avoid trying out this method.

5. Calamine lotion and tea tree oil

What you need

  • 1 tsp calamine lotion
  • 4 to 5 drops of tea tree oil

Steps involved

  • Take around 1 or 2 tsp of calamine lotion and add 4 to 5 drops of tea tree oil to it.
  • Mix both the ingredients and make it into a fine paste.
  • Apply this prepared paste to the acne breakout zones and let your skin absorb it.
  • Repeat this process every night, till the acne clears out.

How it works

Calamine lotion is a rich source of zinc, which helps to dry out the acne and pimples. Additionally, it is anti-inflammatory in nature, so it controls the acne breakouts.
